Biography

Jacqui Sieger... born during the war in Swanage, Dorset, UK, where my father Joshua Sieger CBE, was a pioneer scientist on the new invention of Radar. His work took the family to New York State after the war, continuing research into the new field of colour television.

It was not until the family returned to Dorset that I found my love for art at Uplands School, Parkstone. Dorset. Fascinated by colour, design and fashion I trained at Bournemouth College graduating to become a trainee Buyer at Derry and Toms in Kensington, London. Strangely, this is where my grandfather had worked as a tailor in the 1920s at the sister store John Barkers & Co. and it was there that he met my grandmother.

With my London experience and eager to start my own business in the fashion world, a move to North Yorkshire introduced me to the cloth mills and tanneries. Originally starting with leather coats and hats, selling to local leather shops, I expanded into equestrian clothing with the help of the Council of Small Industries. Soon many leading show jumping and horse racing celebrities in the UK and abroad were buying my products. The business continued successfully until I retired back to Dorset.

Painting has always been a form of relaxation and escape over the years with steady sales to local people. Now, in early retirement there is time to depict my love for the fascinating and mysterious qualities of the sea and landscapes that have so influenced my life. I hope the search for peace and beauty reflects in my work, and appeals to the eye and soul of the viewer. The delicate and intriguing process of a layer technique using luminous acrylic over oil paints creates changing mystical moods. Over the past few years paintings have sold into many private collections, initially in my married name of Jacqui Cowey, but for family reasons I am now painting under my maiden name of Jacqui Sieger. I am now expanding into publishing and exhibitions in the UK and abroad.
